On “cheat days” I generally opt for a greasy, delicious burger. Of all the things we sacrifice to “eat clean”, I miss meat the most. So as soon as my mom told me we were trying yet another meat alternative, I instantly threw a fit (at least in my head I did). However, as she proceeded to tell me how the “Beyond Burger” is supposed to look, cook, and even bleed like meat (thanks to beet juice)—I had to run to Whole Foods myself to grab a pack. This product is also:
High in protein-20 grams per serving
DID THEY DELIVER AS PROMISED
In the package, they look just like raw meat (so far, so good). And as promised, they sizzled, smelled, and turned brown as they cooked just like actual meat. Who’s the genius that came up with this! So cool.
The texture was very much like real meat. They were also juicy like real meat. They had a smoky flavor like they had been cooked on a charcoal grill. They did taste very similar to meat; however, you know it isn’t. You know you’re eating a veggie burger. All I can say is “weird”.
THE VOTES ARE IN
These new veggie concoctions received mixed reviews at our house.
IF YOU ARE VEGAN OR VEGETARIAN, etc., (like my mom who hasn’t eaten a real burger in more than a decade)--then these likely will not appeal to you because they have the taste/texture of meat.
IF YOU ARE A CARNIVORE WHO WOULD LIKE TO EAT MORE VEGGIES (like me!)- then you may fall in love with these!
I paid $5.99 for a pack of 2 “Beyond Burgers”.
